The final of the Irish Science Teachers Association Quiz took place in Trinity College, Dublin last Saturday, and the college team of Michael Walsh, Eoghan Curran and Matthew Cody, which had qualified from the South East region,finished in the prizes in 5th place, only 2 points off the winners. As there was a tie for 5th place initially, the boys had to come through a tie break round against St Gerards of Bray and Colaiste Chriost Ri of Cork to claim 5th prize outright.  Continue Reading...

With Christmas fast approaching, 6th and 3rd year students will have assessments in many subjects over the course of next week, with the remaining subjects being assessed on Monday Dec. 7th . The unrelenting rain doesn't make school life easier whether because of increased traffic, more dangerous roads, students getting wet going to and from school or sports events being postponed. The tragic loss of 4 young lives in the vehicle crash in the west of Ireland is a stark reminder to all of us of the increased dangers on the roads at this time of year. Tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 14th, at an awards ceremony in Limerick, two Good Counsel College students will receive awards for outstanding achievement in the Leaving and Junior Certificate technology exams of last summer. Daniel Wall will receive the Engineering Technology Teachers Association (ETTA) award for achieving 1st place in Ireland in Leaving Certificate Technology while Padraic McGrath will receive the equivalent award for Junior Cert. To have the top student in both Leaving Cert. and Junior Cert. is a remarkable achievement and the school congratulates, and is very proud of, the students and their teachers. Continue Reading...

The mid term break is upon us and another busy week down in Good Counsel. Atrocious weather during the week didn’t make life any easier around the campus. Nonetheless plenty of activities took place with Transition Years traveling to Dublin for the CSI challenge, an information evening for 1st year parents being held, Meitheal leaders taking class 1CN to Leisuremax in  Wexford for a day and numerous sports teams representing the school. Continue Reading...

A group of Australian boys, the ‘Western Wanderers’, visited the school last week, playing a game of compromise rules against the school u -15 team and staying overnight in the residence before flying back to Australia the following day. Continue Reading...

This week was punctuated by a mid week day off on Wednesday. Students interested in attending the ploughing championships in Athy were encouraged to go on this day and thereby minimise disruption to classes on other days during the week. Large numbers of GCC students as ever travelled up to see the latest in agricultural machinery and other fascinations. Teachers had a staff planning day. Continue Reading...
