Only a week to Christmas Day. School wraps up for the break on Tuesday as 1st, 2nd and 5th years finish their exams. School reopens again on Thurs., January 7th.
Early in the week the senior prefects and caretaker Ciaran decorated the school entrance with lights, a crib and Christmas tree to bring a festive feel to the school. The prefects are also holding a competition for the best decorated classroom which Ms Cushen clearly has her heart set on winning - been a while Offaly won any title so maybe this will buck the trend!  Continue Reading...

While the Budget, the Bishops and Tiger Woods have grabbed this week's headlines elsewhere, in Good Counsel the main focus has been on Christmas assessments and upcoming exams. 6th and 3rd year students completed their exams on Monday last while the other year groups will complete theirs next week and on the final days of term..
Meanwhile congratulations are extended to Michael Grace who, because of his high performance in last year's Leaving Certificate, was awarded an Entrance Exhibition Award in Trinity College recently. Congratulations also  to Simon Dunphy, 5th year, who recently won the bronze medal for Physics at the Science Olympiad in DCU, a considerable achievement.  Continue Reading...

TY Christmas Food Appeal.

The Transition years launched their Christmas Food Appeal on behalf of those in need this week and the response from students and their families has been one of overwhelming generosity. Non perishable food items and hygiene products are collected in the school each day by TY students and these will be distributed to those in the local community most in need by South East Simon Community and Focus.

They have also raised over 900 euro to purchase care packs for homeless families which they will present to the charities on December 17th. Continue Reading...

The final of the Irish Science Teachers Association Quiz took place in Trinity College, Dublin last Saturday, and the college team of Michael Walsh, Eoghan Curran and Matthew Cody, which had qualified from the South East region,finished in the prizes in 5th place, only 2 points off the winners. As there was a tie for 5th place initially, the boys had to come through a tie break round against St Gerards of Bray and Colaiste Chriost Ri of Cork to claim 5th prize outright.  Continue Reading...
